Other Axle-Polishing Materials
Here we took an axle that had been used in some test vehicles in the
previous year, and tried to clean them up by applying various materials.
First, the axle as it came off the test car. Note the wear that's
evident.
First we tried just "burnishing" with a cheap fake chamois
"micro-fibre" cloth from the local auto parts store.
Next, we applied "pumice" that came in an axle-polishing kit using the
same fake chamois.
Finally, we tried applying jeweler's rouge, again using the fake
chamois. When we noticed that the rouge left residual material,
we tried cleaning the axle with a soft cotton cloth and photographed
the axle again.
